Caramel is so good, sweet, and sticky. The sad thing is that the stickier the candy, the worse it is for your teeth. When candy sticks on your tooth enamel for longer periods of time, it has more time to cause tooth decay. Candies like gummy bears and taffy are sticky too, so you should avoid those. If you are going to eat sticky candies, it is a good idea to brush and floss shortly afterwards to avoid tooth decay.

 

A good alternative to sticky candies are chocolates without caramel or other sticky things inside. Chocolate on its own melts quickly and has less time to cause tooth damage. Peanut butter cups are a good choice as well because of their quick melting time. You can chew sugarless gum after eating chocolate and other candy to help clean the surface of your teeth until you have the opportunity to brush.
